My University Success
I devised and implemented a comprehensive project where a creative team of four were trained to plan, shoot, and edit compelling stills and video interviews with these successful alumni. This involved equipping them with new DJI Osmo systems, chosen for their convenience, discretion, and adaptability. Through rigorous training, they learned equipment operation, interview techniques, and regional planning, ensuring each subject's unique academic journey was captured effectively.
The 'My University Success' project aimed to showcase the remarkable journeys of Kings Colleges students who had successfully transitioned to top UK universities. This initiative sought to highlight their achievements and inspire future students by providing authentic insights into their university experiences. Rather than direct production, this project focused on strategic management and team development.
The 'My University Success' video series captures the inspiring journeys of former Kings Colleges students now thriving at top UK universities. These authentic stories provide a unique glimpse into the transition from college life to higher education, showcasing the diverse paths and achievements of these successful alumni.
Deliveries
Through candid interviews and engaging b-roll footage, these videos highlight the students' experiences, academic pursuits, and personal growth. Each student's story is a testament to the transformative power of education and the support provided by Kings Colleges, offering valuable insights and motivation for prospective students.
Project X-Ray
1. Aims
The primary aim was to create a series of authentic student success stories, showcasing the pathways from Kings Colleges to top UK universities. This project aimed to inspire prospective students and demonstrate the effectiveness of Kings' educational approach through real-life examples.
2. Training
This project heavily emphasised training. Each team member was trained on the new DJI Osmo systems, focusing on practical application and creative use. They also received comprehensive training in interview techniques, both conversational and filming, to ensure engaging and informative interviews. The training phase culminated in regional planning, where each team member was assigned candidates to contact and interview.
3. Technical
The technical aspect centered on the DJI Osmo system, selected for its portability and discretion. This allowed for seamless interviews and b-roll capture in diverse university environments. Capturing subject-specific b-roll, such as a student in a science lab or an engineer performing relevant activities, required adaptability and creative problem-solving.
4. Resources
Resources were strategically allocated, with a focus on maximising the impact of the new equipment and team training. Each team member was given regional lists of candidates, and they were responsible for scheduling and coordinating interviews. The project's success relied on efficient time management and resourcefulness.
5. Challenges
Challenges included coordinating interviews across various universities and capturing subject-specific b-roll that accurately reflected each student's field of study. Maintaining consistency in interview quality and visual style across all videos was also a key challenge. Additionally, ensuring the students were comfortable during the interviews was paramount.
6. Outcomes
The project was highly successful, delivering a series of compelling student success stories. Team members received 360-degree project reviews, highlighting their growth and achievements. The films were published on the Kings website and across social media platforms, generating significant engagement and positively impacting prospective student recruitment.
Project Feedback
To provide further insight into the 'My University Success' project, I invited the creative team members I trained to share their experiences. They've offered candid feedback on their approach to the project, the support and guidance they received from me, and how they feel they developed professionally under my mentorship. Their reflections offer a valuable perspective on the project's impact and the team's growth throughout the process.
The training provided enabled them to rapidly assess university environments, determining the optimal scene capture, mastering critical technical aspects for seamless integration into the edit, and developing advanced production skills. This included a unique post-production mentoring system, where they received guidance from experienced video editing team members, fostering further professional growth and expertise.
